Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow with FACTS Controllers Using Hybrid Differential Evolution and Harmony Search Algorithm

In this paper, a security constrained optimal power flow (SCOPF) is developed including the flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices for the economic and secure operation of power systems. FACTS devices are used to control the active and reactive power variables as well as the voltages and to reduce the flow of a congested line. In this paper, Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Static VAR Compensator (SVC) are used. Here, the total generation cost minimization is considered as the objective function and voltage stability enhancement index (VSEI)/Lindex is used as a constraint. The proposed SC-OPF problem is solved with the Hybrid Differential Evolution and Harmony Search (hybrid DE-HS) algorithm. The performance and effectiveness of the proposed approach is examined on IEEE 30 bus test system.
